Consumer Who? Consumer You!

  • What type of consumer are you?

The type of consumer I am varies on how much I would want or need the product. When considering VAL types I believe I am a “thinker”. There is a lot of over consumption in the market today and being aware of the negative effects this may have, I choose to think about my purchases before rushing into one. I find myself wanting to make quality purchases over quick options.

  • What influences your buying decisions, and how?

A major influence on my buying decisions is price point. There are most likely either cheaper or more expensive similar options for me to choose from to receive the best value for my budget. Another influence is brand loyalty. If I have previously purchased from a company and was not happy with the product I’m more likely to never purchase from them again and vice versa. Other than quality and price/value, I consider the overall brands reputation. Positive reviews and recommendations from friends increase my chances of purchasing from a specific brand.

  • Which stage actually leads to your purchasing decisions?

The first step in wanting to make a purchase is acknowledging the need or want for something. However, these beginning stages do not always lead to a purchase. I would consider a later stage such as cost and benefits that actually lead to a purchasing decision. By this moment a consumer is actively researching and comparing products with the intent to buy. After evaluating alternatives, I am prepared to make an informed purchase with what aligns most with my needs.

  • When making a buying decision, how are you influenced by marketing research and marketing design?

I consider myself heavily influenced by brands marketing designs. When given the same exact options, I will mostly likely always choose the product with the more appealing packaging. Well thought out marketing design impacts me, especially if it feels premium. I also consider market research such as customer reviews and testimonies but still consider how these can be impacted with false or paid endorsements.

  • Do you experience any post-purchase behavior?

My personal post-purchase behavior depends on what product was purchased and how quickly I came to the conclusion that I wanted to purchase it. I have felt buyers remorse before where after I purchase the product, I realized I didn’t need it or actually like it. However, a positive post purchase reaction will lead to me continuing to support that brand.
